LOS ANGELES (AP) — Cardi Bhe has been awarded five American Music AwardsShe has performed several times on the telecast throughout her entire career. The next step is hosting the program.

The rapper behind such hits as “Bodak Yellow” and “Money” has been tapped to host the fan-voted awards show airing from Los Angeles on ABC on Nov. 21.

“We are immensely excited to have the dynamic Cardi B bring her infectious energy to the American Music Awards as a first-time host,” said executive producer Jesse Collins in a statement Tuesday.

Cardi B performed “I Like It” at the AMAs in 2018 with J Balvin and Bad Bunny and also made history during her last AMAs appearance, becoming the first female rapper to win Favorite Hip-Hop Song twice.

Cardi B has been confirmed as the host of the AMAs, Nov. 21.

Olivia Rodrigo, in the first year she’s eligible, is the leading nominee this time with seven, including artist of the year and new artist of the year.

Six nominations have been made for The Weeknd, a five-time winner, who is up against Rodrigo, Ariana Grande and Drake in the category of artist of the Year.

Reggaeton star Bad Bunny, R&B newcomer Giveon and Doja Cat each have five nominations each. Rodrigo will join Giveon and 24KGoldn as well as Masked Wolf, The Kid LAROI, and Masked Wolf, in the category for new artist of year.

Swift holds currently the record for most awarded artist in AMA History. Swift could continue her streak. She is nominated for three awards total, including favorite pop album for “evermore.”

New categories were added to the AMAs this year: favorite favorite song, favorite Gospel artist, and favourite Latin duo/group.

Pop Smoke (who was murdered in 2020) is up for nominations in the following categories: favorite hip hop album, favorite artist and could be awarded his first posthumous award.
